Counselling:

How I Work

Life is a complex web of relationships—our connections with others and the delicate balance we maintain within ourselves. If you're struggling with personal relationships, battling addictions, or feeling overwhelmed by persistent thoughts and behaviours, rest assured, you're not alone.

Central to my therapeutic philosophy is the belief that moments of discomfort and stress offer profound opportunities for self-discovery and growth. Together, we embark on a journey to unearth the roots of your struggles, crafting strategies to navigate everyday challenges with resilience and positivity. Through this process, you’ll deepen your self-awareness and receive the compassionate support needed to navigate your journey with confidence and clarity.

In our sessions, we dive deep, exploring the underlying issues and gently addressing past traumas that may be shaping your present experiences. Drawing from an Integrative theoretical framework, customised to fit your unique needs, our sessions provide a roadmap for personal transformation and empowerment.

With warmth and empathy, I create a safe haven—a judgment-free space where you can freely explore your difficulties and express your concerns. Here, you’re encouraged to be authentically yourself, knowing that you’re met with understanding and compassion.

Grounded in genuine care and active listening, I prioritise effective communication to ensure your needs are fully heard and honoured. My integrative approach allows for a tailored therapeutic experience, designed to meet you exactly where you are on your journey toward healing and growth.

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling in Bury Greater Manchester. Confidentiality, respect, and a non-judgemental attitude are paramount to the service that I provide.

What is Counselling?

Counselling serves as a form of talking therapy, rooted in psychological theories, designed to provide support and guidance for addressing emotional or psychological needs that feel overwhelming to navigate alone. As humans, our thoughts and emotions play a crucial role in shaping our self-awareness and understanding of the world around us. However, when challenges arise, our thought processes can become distorted, leading to discomfort and emotional turmoil.

Therapy offers a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings, allowing for a deeper understanding of oneself and the issues at hand. Whether grappling with long-standing issues rooted in childhood experiences or feeling overwhelmed by stress in home or work life, counselling provides an opportunity to process and work through these challenges with the guidance of a trained professional.

Regardless of the specific reasons for seeking counselling, having a compassionate and non-judgmental listener can make all the difference in the journey toward healing and self-discovery. In therapy, individuals are empowered to explore their concerns openly and authentically, fostering a sense of acceptance and understanding in a nurturing environment.

What areas do I work with?

I offer counselling sessions for a range of psychological problems, ranging from addiction problems, behavioural problems, stress, anxiety disorders, isolation and loneliness, low self-esteem, confidence issues, anger issues, domestic abuse, and mental health and ADHD.

As well as working online and over the phone, face to face sessions are offered in a comfortable, safe and relaxing environment at my home. If you would like to see a counsellor in Tottington, Bury then please contact me using the contact form.

Why I became a counsellor

My childhood experiences laid the groundwork for a tumultuous adolescence, marked by interactions with individuals from diverse backgrounds and a penchant for getting into trouble along the way.

Navigating these challenging experiences provided me with invaluable insights into the complexities of human behaviour and the underlying struggles faced by individuals from all walks of life. It was during this formative period that I developed a profound empathy for others, recognising that behind every action lies a story of pain and suffering.

As I transitioned into my late teens, this newfound understanding ignited a deep-seated desire within me to offer support and guidance to those in need. I was driven by a sense of compassion and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Over time, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, honing my skills and expanding my knowledge in the field of supporting others. This journey led me to pursue formal training and education, equipping me with the tools and insights needed to effectively support individuals facing a wide range of challenges.

Today, my passion for helping others remains as strong as ever, rooted in a deep-seated belief in the inherent resilience and potential for growth within each individual. It is my privilege to walk alongside others on their journey toward healing and self-discovery, offering compassion, understanding, and unwavering support every step of the way.

Work experience

Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience in both the private and public healthcare sectors, spanning over 15 years. A significant portion of my professional journey has been dedicated to the substance misuse sector, where I have worked tirelessly to support individuals struggling with behaviours. My roles have ranged from working within substance misuse rehabilitation centers to providing community-based support, equipping me with invaluable knowledge and tools to aid others on their journey toward recovery.

Beyond my work in the substance misuse sector, I have also diversified my experience by working in various other settings. During my training, I had the opportunity to work in doctor’s surgeries, gaining insights into primary care and patient support. Additionally, I have dedicated time to serving within a domestic abuse charity, providing crucial support to individuals navigating complex and challenging situations. Furthermore, my experience extends to working in schools, where I have had the privilege of counselling young people, offering guidance and support during their formative years.

For many years, I have served as a dedicated counsellor in the Bury, Bolton, and Rochdale areas, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and across different age groups. This breadth of experience has allowed me to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for healing and growth.

Sessions: What to Expect

Your first session

During your first session, our focus will be on building rapport and establishing a solid foundation for our therapeutic relationship. This initial meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know each other on a personal level, as well as to discuss your expectations, goals, and concerns regarding the counselling process.

You’ll have the chance to share what you hope to gain from counselling, whether it’s finding relief from specific issues, gaining insight into yourself, or developing coping strategies for life’s challenges. This session is all about you, and I’m here to listen attentively and support you in any way I can.

Additionally, this first session provides a space for you to ask any questions you may have about me, my approach to counselling, or what to expect moving forward. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident in our partnership, so don’t hesitate to raise any concerns or seek clarification on any aspect of the counseling process.

By the end of our first session together, my hope is that you’ll feel heard, understood, and empowered to take the next steps on your journey towards healing and growth. Together, we’ll work collaboratively to create a supportive and nurturing environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with honesty and authenticity.
